14-year-old Hira* belongs to a very poor family in a village. Her father is a farmer, but a winter drought badly affected their crop, and they’re living hand-to-mouth.

Unfortunately, Hira and her siblings are affected by an unknown condition causing developmental delays. Hence, Hira’s father is the only earner in the family.

Hira’s mother approached our sewing teacher to request that she teach her. At first, our teacher refused because it would be a big challenge to teach her because of her mental condition.

Again and again, Hira’s mother begged the teacher to admit Hira. Finally, the teacher presented her request to our Pakistani board. They decided to give Hira a chance and encouraged the teacher to deal with her patiently.

Unexpectedly, Hira responded very well to the lessons. Though progress was slow at first, she is now able to sew outfits and hopes to help her father with household expenses soon.

Hira is an inspiration to the other students and is even a good example for all of the village girls. We are very proud of her.

Hira’s family is asking for help providing food to their family during this difficult time. To contribute to this acute need, please click here. $100 will support them for one month.
