Although it has been five months since the extreme monsoon flooding in Pakistan, water is still standing in many fields. People continue to live in makeshift camps. Children are dying due to typhoid fever, malaria, and pneumonia.
Thanks to partnership with AMG International, we distributed 200 more Love Care kits of food and hygiene products to flood-affected families.
Asia was living in a small village in south Punjab. She said that when the rain did not stop, the water level kept rising in the nearby fields and in the streets.
They decided that they would stay in their house waiting for the rain to stop. She was in the final term of her pregnancy, and they could not leave their cows behind.
Through tears, Asia told RAM that one day in the rains when her husband went through the water to get the grass for the cows, he was not aware that power cables were lying in the water from a nearby electricity pole. Electric shock killed her husband on the spot.
A few days after her husband’s death, she went into labor, and her little girl was born with the help of neighboring women. Soon after the birth of her girl she left the area since everyone vacated the village. She has been living in a camp since then.
Her family often does not eat for days. Her little girl is very weak. Asia was thankful for the support and requested us to continue her support.
Azmat lived in a small village. Her husband previously died from tuberculosis. Before the flooding, she used to work in the fields of her village and also owned several goats.
During the monsoon flooding, all of her goats died. Her house was destroyed completely. Azmat Bibi and her daughter were rescued from the severe flooding by teams in boats that dropped them off in a camp.
Flood water still remains in her area, and her only assets were destroyed. She continues to live in a camp with her daughter.
Azmat was very thankful to AMG International for providing help in this difficult time.
